Flying Club open house 2018: Weather 1, Flying Club 0

The 2018 Alberni Flying Club open house opened on Sunday, June 24 with an ominous GFA, predicting a weather system from the east by 1 p.m.
More than a dozen volunteers, including leaders Tom and Loretta Parkinson, set up extra tents and prepared for a barbecue. Pilots Cyril Rodgers and Darren Hansen gave club plane C-GDNT a workout despite the incoming weather.
We welcomed three pilots who made it over the ridge and through the clouds: Darryl Francoeur with his Piper Super Pacer from Abbotsford; Doug Steele in his Piper from Nanaimo; and Bruce Burley in his Cessna Centurion C210 from Boundary Bay.

We're grateful to Coulson Aviation for giving visitors to the Alberni Valley Regional Airport (CBS8) a glimpse at the Boeing 727 on the apron as well as the 737 fire tanker that they are converting into a firefighting aircraft.

We're always looking for new members at the Alberni Flying Club. If you have a love of aviation or a pilot's licence, get in touch with us.
